Since June 29, the Gemini app has aligned with the Data Regions policies configured in Google Workspace. In practical terms, when an organisation requires its Google Workspace data to be stored and processed in a specific region, such as the European Union, Gemini now follows the same policy.

For users, nothing changes, but for the teams in charge of setting and piloting the data governance, this is an important milestone.

This development brings Gemini even closer to the rest of the Google Workspace ecosystem. AI is no longer treated as a separate silo: it is now integrated into the same governance mechanisms set for data, identities, and access controls.

This is a particularly welcome development for local authorities, educational institutions, healthcare providers, and organisations who have an obligation to adhere to a strict compliance framework.
